The laser tracker is a portable 3D measuring instrument designed for large-scale, high-precision measurements.

The laser tracker allows 3D coordinates of points on an object to be determined quickly and reliably. Using an interferometer, whose laser beam automatically tracks a reflector, various components and/or objects can be digitally captured. This technology is primarily used for quality assurance in mechanical engineering. sigma3D relies on high-quality laser trackers from FARO and Hexagon (formerly Leica).

Measurement Volume:

The measurement volume of a laser tracker varies depending on the application. The laser tracker can measure distances ranging from 15 to 80 meters (depending on the model and manufacturer). The measurement volume can be expanded as needed using specialized measurement methods.

Measurement accuracy:

The measurement accuracy is specified as U = 20 µm + 10 µm/m. This already includes the tolerance of the measuring sphere. 20 µm is a constant value that applies to every measurement, regardless of distance. 10 µm/m means that for every 1 meter of distance from the device, the measurement uncertainty increases by 10 µm.

Software:

For the tactile measurement of components or fixtures, we use various software packages depending on the measurement task. sigma3D relies on the software packages Insight, Polyworks, Spatial Analyzer, Metrolog, and MeasureX.

Data Exchange:

Data can be exchanged via email, FTP server, or directly in person on-site. Alternatively, we can of course also send the data by mail on a CD.
