Measuring instruments are also ageing

A measuring device can provide very good service for a very long time. But after a few years, working with an older device simply takes longer. The measurement accuracy is often still given, but the working process itself becomes more tedious.

This is why the company sigma3D decided to replace their old Leica AT 901 tracker with a new Leica AT 960. This device was chosen because it allows them to continue using the T-probe, which is still available from the previous device, without any loss of accuracy.

Last week, long-time partner Olaf Wienke from Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence came by to commission the tracker together with the sigma3D employees. Mr Wienke also shared some of his tracker-specific experience, which the staff were delighted to be able to draw on.

In typical sigma3D practice, a new tracker is of course first subjected to internal testing to ensure that it meets the company's standards. There is also a certain period of familiarisation between the device and the employees, because a measuring device also has its own personality.
